Annual Update
This course is designed to refresh the workplace first aider’s knowledge and skills. It is only available to candidates holding current and valid First Aid at Work and Emergency First Aid at Work certificates.
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) strongly recommends that first-aiders undertake annual refresher training during any three year certification period. Although not mandatory, this will help qualified first-aiders maintain their basic skills and prevent any skills fade, plus will keep you updated with any changes to first aid procedures.
The course syllabus follows the suggested format by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) contained within The Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981.
On completion of training, successful candidates will be able to:
- Assess the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency.
- Administer first aid to an adult casualty who is unconscious (including seizure).
- Administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation to an adult, including using an AED.
- Administer first aid to an adult casualty who is wounded and bleeding.
- Administer first aid to an adult casualty who is suffering from shock.
Assessment
Candidates will be assessed throughout the course. Evidence of underpinning knowledge will be required for certification.
